Read a Banned Book

Read a banned book. It's your duty as an American to follow in the footsteps of our founding fathers who told the British to "suck it" and tell those people who want to control what you have access to read to "suck it."

Blog of Rights: Official Blog of the American Civil Liberties Union: Celebrate the Freedom to Read: Read a Banned Book!

Books are traditionally banned for a variety of reasons, but they usually come down to some sort of "moral majority" wanting to control what information people have a right to have access.

Tell the "moral majority" to shove it. Books are repositories of ideas and knowledge, they hold a moment in time with their colloquialisms and jargon; showing future generations the ideas, feelings and cultural presence of differing times and places. Places we might otherwise forget to time.

So be an American and rebel. We rebelled against the tyranny of imperialism, we have rebelled against the idea of totalitarianism and we've rebelled against our very own conservative ideas.

So be a rebel: read a banned book.
