Could you imagine if Obama had skipped this tradition?

Could you imagine if Obama had skipped this tradition? The #GOP would be firing up their pitchforks and denouncing him as just about everything they deem unpatriotic. #DonaldTrump, on the other hand, gets a free pass.

Not even our own National Cemetery? The "Commander-in-Chief" who rants for respect cannot be bothered to honor those who courageously answered the call in defense of this great nation. Really, how can anyone see it as anything but shameful disrespect at best?

My heart breaks for our veterans. My sincerest, most genuine gratitude for all who serve and have served. We honor your service. We honor your sacrifice. You are not forgotten.

It's been an unofficial Veteran's Day tradition for years. The commander in chief visits the tomb of the unknown soldier at Arlington National Cemetery to honor those who served and sacrificed. Donald Trump is not going.

Twice in one weekend WTF
If he hates it here so much, why doesn't he go back to the Baltics or Czechoslovenia or wherever he picks his next wives and stop shitting on everything in sight. This is nothing less than spitting in the face of every person who has served and is serving. WTF

I'm not one stuck on traditions at all, but the reasons he uses for not sticking to them and the hipocracy of the GOP are what is astounding. I mean, remember when Obama wore a tan suit? They practically rioted in the streets.

You know there'd be a real-life lynch mob on the White House lawn if Obama skipped a Veterans Day visit to Arlington.

The POTUS is after all the US Armed Forces Commander in Chief - it's not just a tradition - it is a major part of his job to be the respected leader all Commanders in Chief have been! I cannot imagine any POTUS in history except 45 who would have the audacity to give his middle finger to all those who have served and are serving...

Simply because the Republicans would have singled out Obama for abuse, I won't engage with their idiocracy antics. What The Donald does or doesn't do will always be anathema to me, so why flatter his supporters by emulating their behavior?

Keith Keber are you addressing my comment? Trump being Commander in Chief is a fact. Anyone who holds this job ought to have the aptitude for it and respect for the men and women who are serving or have served. Trump singles himself out by not living up to his responsibilities as Commander in Chief. Demoralization is a very real threat to armed forces.

Anyone like to take on a bet that 45's no show at Aisne-Marne American cemetery and memorial at Belleau plus the same at Arlington because of...
- rain
- having a helicopter that apparently can't fly in rain
-not wanting to disrupt Paris traffic
is not having a demoralizing effect on American troops and veterans everywhere?

IMO 45's behaviour this time is unrelated to politics.Internationally the chat is more related to the implications of any organization that has a leader who demonstrates such weakness...but I digress.

su ann lim No, I wasn't addressing anyone's response in this thread, just sharing my opinion. I agree with everything you and the other respondents have said, thus my "anathema" comment.

I just can't bring myself to act toward The Donald in the same way that he and his supporters would act toward Obama. Lots of people in this nation totally ignore the horrors faced by U.S. soldiers every single day in Afghanistan, just as The Donald ignores our dead. Shall I judge them all the same? Maybe so, and maybe justly.

But would that make me subject to the same kind of monstrosity that the Republican Party— especially under the current "leadership" (using the term loosely)— has morphed into? I found myself becoming that on Facebook. It's the main reason why I disabled my account there.

Keith Keber I agree with some of what you say. I can never forget what soldiers in Afghanistan have faced/are facing (I had a spouse who was there for two tours who fought alongside American troops). Where I live Remembrance Day (Veteran's Day to you) is about appreciating those who served, those who are serving and all those who support/are affected by those that serve. Which may explain why I'm so incensed by T's no shows. If Justin was derelict of his duty like T was in France, it would have been a matter of days before a parliamentary non confidence vote would have kicked him and possibly his party out of office. To us, it was not merely ignoring the dead, it would have been a great insult to all Canadians (a conclusion reached in a public discussion during our local Remembrance Day observances.)

Good for you for taking a higher road. You don't need to judge others or react to their monstrosities in a like manner. How they act only reflects them and their twisted beliefs. How you act reflects you.

The a-hole has some sort of inferiority complex when it comes to the military. He either can't serve because of "bone spurs", can't attend memorial services because he doesn't want to get his hair wet. Its always about him. Glad the idiotic military parade was cancelled.
