Life Update

I wanted to sit here and write a new blog post, but once I actually sat down and fired up the laptop I became so overwhelmingly tired I just couldn't imagine stringing two words together, much less dozens or hundreds. In the end I decided not to write a blog post. And then ...

... I didn't have anything else to do at the moment. So, I logged into Blogger and here I am - with nothing really interesting to say.

Last night was cold. Not "kill me in my sleep" cold, but cold enough. My 10f sleeping bag kept me nice and comfortable, but anytime any part of me stuck out of the bag I was quickly reminded of how cold it actually was out there. And, for the record, I think it dropped into the low teens last night. Brrr...!

Then I was up this morning, at the gym warming up and off to my storage unit to get some paperwork from a job I had last year that still hasn't paid me. The local VA center was having a free legal advice day and I wanted to run my problem past an actual lawyer before pursuing it further. He seemed to think I have a case, but civil law wasn't his forte and he suggested I call an old colleague of his to see what they could do for me.

Here's My Hat, For No Other Purpose
That kind of defeats the purpose of "free' legal, but I said I'd call and I will. I just don't if there will be any fruit from that particular tree. The guy (the lawyer) also made a statement that I wasn't sure was a joke or not. He said if his friend didn't help then maybe he would "write a demand letter" for me. I thought that was nice of him until he followed it up with, "if you start showing me some respect."

That statement caught me off guard. Respect? When did I not show him respect? I mean, I wasn't saying "yes, sir" and "no, sir" with every statement he was making, but I also wasn't calling him an old fat guy going to Russia for the cheap hookers, either. Oh yeah, he ran a non-profit that's sole purpose was to bring "Christianity to Russians." I thought it was just a ploy to travel to Russia and write the whole endeavor off as a charity event. He said he spends most of his time in Donald Trump's favorite country (he didn't say it like that, I'm saying it like that) and therefore wasn't up to speed on current employment law in Colorado. Hence the referral.

Afterwards, I went and met my volunteer coordinator who was in the same building. She and I had text messaged repeatedly but had never met face-to-face. Now we have. I gave her an update as to my position and she took notes. Unfortunately she had an appointment for just minutes after I arrived and couldn't spend more time with me, which was okay, I (apparently) had an appointment with sitting in traffic.

While I was there I met another guy who came and gave me some "homelessness" tips. He was apparently sleeping on the actual street. Just him, his girlfriend and his sleeping bags. I can't complaint about the temperature in my truck when I at least have four walls around me. This guy said he was from Alaska so the cold didn't bother him too much, but he also said he was a veteran, as well. I wished there was something I could do, but I have nothing to give but time.

I should have spent the afternoon job hunting, but again, I've just been so tired. I'm hoping, since it will be warmer this evening, to get a better night's sleep and be better equipped to search for work in the coming days. We'll see.
