There's a great TED talk on reversing desertification (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vpTHi7O66pI) that explains better than I could why wild horses are actually quite beneficial to grazing lands.

kinda sad - but there are an invasive species  - the horse pop will double every 4-5 years - the range can only support X amount of animals
