I looked at About Chrome and it started updating right then and there. Either that's a hell of a coincidence or, if you look at About Chrome, it goes ahead and updates.

Just checked About Google Chrome and sure enough it started updating. Yay!

Yep, that's by design... it checks for updates whenever you open the About panel. Now mine is updating too!
