Last night, thanks in part to T-Mobile Tuesdays, I went to the movies and watched #HiddenFigures.
Last night, thanks in part to T-Mobile Tuesdays, I went to the movies and watched #HiddenFigures. I'd heard the rumors and seen a couple of reviews talking about how great the movie was and I have to say, yes, it is an outstanding film. I mean, really really good.
What struck me the most wasn't the historical significance of the film, but how the movie portrayed that historical significance. Unlike other films based on periods of history (let's say Apollo 13, Selma or Red Tails) I didn't feel like I was being told what happened, but rather that I was experiencing what these women were going through.
Every bit of this movie was perfect. The story, the pacing of the plot, the subtle bits and pieces that happen off to the side of the screen - everything.
Let me put it this way: when I went to the theaters and saw Rogue One on opening day I had to step out about half way through to use the restroom real quick. I ended up missing the first Darth Vader scene. During my watching of Hidden Figures I also had the need to step out to the restroom (my fault both times for drinking a liter of water en route to the theater), but couldn't convince myself any time was a good time to step away. I didn't want to miss any of it.
It really was a fantastic movie. If you haven't seen it yet, you should.
