When I enlisted (to avoid being drafted) I said I wanted to be a pilot. My eyesight wasn't good enough. I wasn't allowed to leave, just to choose another MOS. Chose intelligence and glad I did.

I tried to be a Marine after 1.8 years in JROTC. After a week in MEPS, I got permanently disqualified due to my kidneys. Could not pass a piss test, protein. I would have taken any assignment at the time. Edit, forgot the biopsy I had done in civilian hospital a few weeks later. Yeah, did not go well, felt like I got punched in the kidneys and had to spend the night in hospital.

That's why I called him a dumbass. There are four branches in the military, five if you count the Coast Guard. Not being able to be a pilot is not the same as not being able to join the military.
