There are several things that bother me about this article. Mostly, its shoddy reporting.

Was passing a drug test a requirement for employment?
Was there a random drug test policy?
If not, how does he know they weren't potheads to begin with?
If they were potheads from the get go, what other factors may have contributed to a drop in quality?

Perhaps morale dropped because the boss is an insufferable asshole who has fired 25 people in the past 2 years based on a vague level of quality that he keeps eluding to. That certainly wouldn't motivate me to put 100% in at work.
