Let us not mix everything together here. By far the most problematic screen is the TV screen, which traps people in a state of physical and mental passive arousal for which our species is poorly prepared.

The health problems of shift workers have not grown worse since the industrial revolution - in fact, the phenomenon was much worse in the past when more factories had to run around the clock to recoup the capital investment in machinery. These days this is much less common, luckily.
