Just had to call the police for suspicious behavior And sure enough, my neighbors were robbed.

I was spotted by the lookout while on the phone with dispatch.

Looks like I'll have to sleep with the chamber loaded for the next couple of nights.

Be careful, although I doubt they would come back to rob the exact same area.

Unless they live nearby

Wow, that's crazy. Hopefully you stopped them from taking to much cause it sounds like they got some stuff

Stay in a hotel, have a cop sleep in your house. :)

I'd go with the chamber loaded. You are responsible for your own protection, not the police. They are responsible for solving crimes after they have ocurred.

Someone should tell that to all the PD's that have "To Protect and To Serve" on their Police Vehicles.

Since I'm not on mobile anymore I can elaborate:

Sometime about 10 o'clock (local) last night I took the dogs for a walk. While I was out my roommate decided to step on the front porch for a smoke. Apparently, she saw three men dressed in dark hoodies walking down a sidewalk looking into the individual vehicles.

That's when she took a step back inside and grabbed her phone and dialed dispatch, not 911 (as no crime was actively occurring). She came back out when she heard me coming around the corner and I let the dogs play with a neighbor's dog who was also out at that time, not noticing the men in hoodies a few houses over.

When I called the dogs back and came towards the condo I noticed my roommate on the phone and while I thought it was odd to have a social call this late on a Sunday, eh, whatever.

We went inside and that's when she asked me: Did you see the guys in hoodies while you were out walking the dogs?

Nope.

She explained: they came from that direction and now they're hanging out by that unit. One's by the column, I didn't see where the other two went.

I went back outside and sure enough there was one appearing as though he was on lookout. Inside the other condo lights were on and I could see a male walking back and forth in the kitchen. The lookout was trying hard not to be seen.

I pulled out my phone and called dispatch again. I told the guy on the phone that my roommate had called once already but now at least one guy was in the house walking around and popping lights on and off.

Then I dropped the call. That's always fun, dropping a call while you're trying to report a crime.

I call back and get another person, a woman this time. I start telling her: I just dropped the call. I was calling to give more information on some suspicious activity. At first the guys weren't in the house but now they look like they're in the house, moving around, looks like they're looking for something.

I asked when the police would arrive.

They will be there as soon as they can, she tells me.

That's great, I say, you'll be here after the robbers are gone.

I'm entitled to my opinion, she says.

That's great, send a friggin car.

I don't appreciate the swearing, she says.

Well, I don't appreciate the ass-dragging, I say.

Sir, she says, they can't just rush over there if a crime hasn't been committed yet.

Oh great, I tell her, wait until after the house is robbed or the lookout, who is staring straight at me, comes over here to  my house with his friends. Then you'll wish you sent a car out quicker.

Sir, do you want to talk to my supervisor?

I think that's a good idea, I say. She puts me on hold and a minute or so later I hang up.

About 20 minutes later . A glance out the window to make sure it's not some punk and I see a police uniform.

The officer takes out statements and names, then tells us he'll be back.

I step outside and watch as the officers walk around the unit we pointed out, looking in windows and see that they've found one that's open and the screen's cut out.

After another patrol car comes up they enter the house and we can hear then call out: "Police! Come out hands up!"

There was no one in the house, they were just clearing it.

The officer never came back but my roommate walked over there at 1am and the officers said they'd be in the neighborhood all night so sleep well.

My roommate was very worried the people saw me and identified this house for target.

Fast forward to this morning and while out walking the dogs I meet the owner of the unit. Apparently she was house sitting this weekend and the police tracker her down at 3am. She met with them at 5:30am.

She thanked me for getting involved and I told her what had happened the night before. She thanked me again.

Interestingly enough, as we were talking she let it slip that she's a part time judge in one of the suburbs. I guess the police will be taking care of her. :)

wow, that's crazy. Glad you didn't give up and now the police have it on record that you tried to stop it before anything happened and they dragged their asses and missed the crime.
