Why does it always seem like the police are protecting the violence starters (#DonaldTrump supporters) against the resisters (anti-facists)?

As police launched flash-bang grenades and charged at demonstrators, journalists and legal observers on the antifascist side, Gibson’s supporters roamed where they wished with minimal attention from authorities.

It seems like all those stories from the "no tolerance" bullying agenda where the bullies would get away with whatever they were doing and only those who defended themselves from the bullies would get in trouble from the teachers or schools.
