Petroleum has a hundred year head-start on solar panels

Petroleum has a hundred year head-start on solar panels ... one has to wonder if anyone is ever going to eke out more energy at a lower cost from oil.

For the record, I'm a huge fan of renewable energies and if governments and corporations spent half as much on research into those as they do into oil subsidies, then we wouldn't be dealing with superstorms such as Harvey or Irma.
