A systematic failure cost them the life of their son. This should never have happened. My question is, if the son called his mom and said "don't come home" why didn't he also call the police and say he heard gunfire next door?

I always wondered that, I remember hearing something about a girl calling her boyfriend numerous times and texting him while he was working on his night shift and couldn't get back to her in time...but why didn't she call 911?

I agree. When I hear stories of "well, I called X while Y was happening" but they failed to call the police ... ? I don't get it. Even if you don't trust the police, in many places when you dial 911 they automatically send out Fire and Ambulance as well.
