Yup... They announced it's "sunset" period of 3 months before they do away with it all together. http://googlereader.blogspot.com.au/2013/03/powering-down-google-reader.html

I logged into G+ and kept seeing references to people needing to get their RSS feeds.

Just use feedly and you will be fine

For news I've been using Current.

I think Google is realizing that Google Reader doesn't really solve that much of a need for users where they can't fill with Google plus now, or will be able to in the future. Most of the articles I read in Google Reader are now being posted to Google+, it's just a bit harder to digest (though I haven't spent that much time seeing if I can replace it all together)

I use Reader to keep track of websites or subjects I'm interested in. I dont check it every day, though. I will need something new. Does MS have a reader? I have an Outlook.com email address not doing anything.

the desktop software for outlook does have RSS support.

Yeah, but then I have to use the desktop software. I'd rather use Thunderbird. ;)

Someone suggested Yahoo pick up the slack. I think that would be a good move for Yahoo.

that would be a great move by Yahoo. Marissa Mayer ;)
