Whoa!
Whoa!
Are there only so many faces out there or are these guys really undead?

The picture on the left was taken in 1870. The picture on the right was taken in 1860. I am now forced to conclude that Nicolas Cage and John Travolta are vampires

More specifically, there are only so many abstractions of a face that you can recognize as being "different".
Our brains perform so rapidly and efficiently because we don't have to process each little thing every time. We do something with complex information called "chunking" to abstract it and make it manageable.
This is why we see a "man in the moon" and "Jesus in Toast". When abstracted, those things look familiar to other abstractions we've made.
If you start looking closely (moving from an abstraction of a face to looking at specific details) you'll see that neither one looks much like John Travolta or Nicholas Cage - but that (when abstracted) each looks like those two much more than they look like Cameron Crow or Cameron Diaz, or your Uncle Dave.
