Some things I've been reading indicate that there are some systemic issues within Google that led to this. People keep calling G+ a failure, but the reality is they have FOUR HUNDRED MILLION active users, and almost two billion accounts.
Seriously, if you can't find a way to make it work with quite literally hundreds of millions of users, whatever it is ... you're doing it wrong.
