It's Twitter's fault, but a thread might refer to people talking (replying) to themselves, where some priority I'd given to aligning tweet B with tweet A (from the original user).
Generally tweets do not have "a thread" not like your post will have; where there is an original post and subordinate comments.
Twitter has threads (plural) where there are multiple threads strung together from the original tweet. By virtue of Twitter's lack of hierarchy.
