Someone asked this question yesterday but I can't recall who. Andrew Maxwell commented he prefers a clean workspace and I commented I prefer a messy one.

In my day job if you look at the designers' vs the developers' desks there is a marked contrast. The designers, whose job it is to be creative, have messy desks and we're often chastised about it [which we ignore]. The developers, whose job it is to put order to the designs, have neat ones.

Can't say this proves the article but it is an interesting happenstance.

I use the organized chaos method... Organized piles of mess. 3 laptops torn apart on one desk looks messy. But I know what pile is what and what is going on in each pile.. And those piles are extremely temporary.
