I never really understood why people dislike comic sans so much. Aside from official documentation I like a little whimsy in my fonts.

It's more that it was over-used by office managers all across the country than it is inherently bad.

Alan Gerow hit the nail on the head.  Every office kitchen/canteen area I've ever been in has had the ubiquitous, obnoxious (and misogynistic) sign stating, "I am not your mother/wife, please wash your own dishes," and it is invariably printed in Comic Sans and posted by the office manager.
