Try using google to search for particular things ... here is how
Site: Using the method to search only this site we start with the site:plus.google.com in the search box.
URL: Once that is done we want to make sure we are searching only a profile or posts of a person, so we check the URL for either 'about' or 'posts using -inurl:about or -inurl:posts depending what you want to search.
making sure its a person: I add in "have * in circles" to make sure its a person.
From there we just add in search keywords. Using quotes around the search terms tells google to only show results with that key word.
So, here are a couple of examples you can post into google
Finding somebody in your location (in this case my town)
site:plus.google.com -inurl:about "have * in circles" "Cambridge, NZ"
Search for Linux users
site:plus.google.com -inurl:about "have * in circles" "Linux" system administrator
Search for people posting about Linux
site:plus.google.com -inurl:posts "have * in circles" "Linux"
Edit: the point is that with awesome regex you can find a much narrower scope of things. eg site:plus.google.com -inurl:about "have * in circles" "Occupation * Linux System Administrator"
This specifically finds people who have that as their occupation, rather than just in their profile. you could add to that and make it Gender specific, showing all Linux system administrators who are female
site:plus.google.com -inurl:about "have * in circles" "Occupation * Linux System Administrator" "Gender * Female"
* is a wild card, it means "anything" pretty much

I like photography some, but I've not had any trouble filling my stream with great pictures, and I don't have much time to take any pictures with chasing two little kids and focusing on my career.
All my Linux friends are grouped in my geek circle. I'm not very organized.
Oh, and those search tips rock.
I no one hears back by later Saturday, mention me in a reply to see if I have fixed it up any.
