WWI started with an assassination, too. I'm not saying this will result in a global war, but with the Middle East already in turmoil and Russia already in Syria, this gives the Russian state a larger excuse to be more aggressive in the region. Maybe, hopefully, any contentions that arise from this assassination will be resolved diplomatically. And yet, with Trump's blind adherence to Putin's party line, I fear whatever happens the US will be drawn into it
