California made this error, not the individual soldiers who enlisted under the program. California should be on the hook for repaying the Pentagon, not the individuals.

Yes, but apparently they wrote the law so that the servicepeople are jammed up. I can't believe how we screw our military in this country: It's only a few tens of millions of dollars. Probably three seconds worth of the Pentagon's operating budget.

There is a way to have the debt written off, but apparently the process takes years and there's no guarantee you'll be successful. Incredible.
