I can't, for the life of me, understand why someone would be searching these terms in Maps to begin with. Or, why it leads to the White House.

It's not that people are randomly searching for the terms, it that somebody deliberately set it up to do that using the google mapmaker feature and then shared it with likeminded friends. It goes viral within that group and eventually it catches the attention of people who find it offensive. Then its news. Or News-ish, anyway
