I can see the fact they were in a no win situation. If they attempted to negotiate for her release and ISIS discovered that she was American it could have put the rest of the hostages at risk. The one thing we should all be able to agree in is that ISIS and it's perverted ideology is the monsters in this story.

No, they didn't want her in Syria, but when they had a chance to have her released with the other DWB/MSF hostages they could have just added her on. ISIS was obviously letting them claim hostages who worked for their organization.
