Here in the UK that dad would be up on a very serious assault charge or even attempted murder. We are not allowed to hurt criminals.

But he did right, and so did the police.

Florida has castle laws, as to do most US states.  This essentially means if your castle is violated by anyone for essentially any reason, they are pretty much able to do whatever they please.
