Isn't that because they had to?  Open and concealed carry are legal in Florida.  North Carolina requires permits -- at least for handguns.

How does that require them to? 4 years ago the Tea Party threw a fit because Obama wouldn't allow weapons at his campaign events, nevermind Bush didn't even allow dissent when he was running.

It doesn't.  In fact, I think it was Crooks and Liars which was making fun of this a month ago.  It really is ironic that in a state that allows all manner of guns, the pro-gun party is banning them at its convention, while the Democrats don't need to.
