I strongly disagree with much of what Eliot Cohen defines as Conservatism , but these points ring true: During the Ford and Kavanaugh testimonies, Americans watched the cranky maunderings of Senator Chuck Grassley and the spitting, menacing fury of Senator Lindsey Graham. The combination of calm strength and good humor that characterized the modern conservative icon, Ronald Reagan, was nowhere to be found. But that spirit, the spirit of a president who celebrated America as a city on a hill that was generous abroad, welcoming to newcomers, and self-confident at home, has been replaced by the sour meanness of a party chiefly of men, who build walls to keep the world out, erect tariffs to destroy free trade, despise the alliances that keep Americans secure, and sanction the deliberate plucking of babes from their mothers’ breasts in order to teach illegal immigrants a painful lesson. In such a world, decorum and courtesy are irrelevant. There has always been a dark side to American conse...

In #TrumpNation the #Republican party is lost to #DonaldTrump and the people he encouraged to come out of the shadows. The good news is we now know who they are. The bad news ... they're running for office and defeating their traditional #GOP counterparts. #SteveWest http://deadstate.org/antisemitic-conspiracy-theorist-wins-gop-state-primary/

Well worth the read.

Well worth the read. As Mueller probes #DonaldTrump's tweets for hints of obstruction, Donald Trump tweets an obstructionist tweet. Can you imagine the feigned righteous fury that would have erupted if Obama, Clinton or Clinton had tried to shut down an investigation? But, of course, the #GOP doesn't care. They're not interested in truth or justice, they're interested in their backwards agenda, partisan politics and blaming progressives for solving a modern America's problems. In #TrumpNation the #Republican party is strangling itself. I actually had a friend on FB the other day try to tell me that all these "Reagan Republicans" leaving the Republican Party over the party’s coalescing around Trump were RINOs and not true Republicans. Apparently, only Trump Putin Republicans are true to the ideology anymore. Originally shared by David Brin WODI = "What if Obama had Done It? The current #Republican party is #DonaldTrump's party, of that there is no doubt.

The current #Republican party is #DonaldTrump's party, of that there is no doubt. They have stood by him, supported him and defended him whenever he has gone off the rails, embarrassed the US and condemned our ties and alliances that have kept the world relatively peaceful (ie: no more World Wars) for 80ish years. It seems publicly supporting Putin over the USA is a line many, but not all, in the #GOP couldn't condone, but will it last or will they return to Trump-love soon enough? In other words, Republicans looked the other way when it came to Trump's Russia views, as they did when it came to so many other things, from his obvious policy ignorance to his racist rhetoric to his "grab 'em by the pussy" tape. With few exceptions, including, to be fair, Jeff Flake, Ben Sasse, and Mitt Romney, prominent voices in the GOP declined to denounce Trump—and in Romney's case, he turned around and gladly accepted Trump's endorsement after being publicly humiliate...

Paul Ryan effectively told #DonaldTrump, and the American people, that the #Republican Congress has been covering for the President's bad acts and behavior and should they lose even one congressional house the President is effed . Republican lawmakers have effectively told the Republican president that they've looked the other way on Trump's scandals and misdeeds, ignoring their oversight responsibilities and undermining the entire idea of checks and balances, but Democrats won't. In #TrumpNation it's party over nation for the #GOP. http://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/paul-ryan-warns-if-dems-win-theyll-hold-trump-accountable/amp?__twitter_impression=true

Is Roy Moore just another example of the implosion of the #Republican Party? "Best case scenario is for him to step aside which seems unlikely," said a veteran Republican Senate operative. "Next best case is for the Alabama electorate to beat his ass like a drum and make it clear that regardless of party affiliation the GOP does not tolerate child predators." https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2017/11/10/politics/roy-moore-senate-republicans/index.html

This is a long read but a fascinating one of former Speaker John Boehner's tenure in Congress, what he thinks about the Tea Party and the current political divide. I'm still no fan of his politics but he appears to be a savvy man with fairly good insight into the current political climate. #GOP #Republican https://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2017/10/29/john-boehner-trump-house-republican-party-retirement-profile-feature-215741

A couple of days ago I went to a #CoryGardner townhall here in the Denver Metro area and watched as a disbelieving #Republican senator couldn't wrap his head around the idea that many people in the room believed the #GOP to be racist in nature. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.theatlantic.com/amp/article/537162/

Those of us paying attention saw this coming. Sure, some who voted #Republican will claim repealing #Obamacare is still the right choice, but many more, those who risk becoming the uninsured masses and those who will see their rates double or triple under the #GOP offering, will have to question whether #DonaldTrump and the rest of the Right is looking out for their best interests. https://mobile.nytimes.com/2017/03/14/opinion/the-original-lie-about-obamacare.html?_r=0&referer=https://www.google.com/

“We have freedom of religion here, but they don’t have the right to bring their Sharia law overreach on our constitutional laws,” Idaho Republican Rep. Eric Redman said of his bill, according to the Spokesman-Review in Spokane, Wash. Apparently Rep. What if the reason the Congressional #GOP won't go after #DonaldTrump is because they realize he is the distraction? In every magic trick there's some sort of distraction; usually it's a pretty girl in a slinky outfit, but sometimes it can be music or a light show. In #TrumpNation it's the president himself. While we're all wondering at the Chief Moron's antics the #Republican controlled Congress is trying to take the USA back to the 19th Century. via Cara Evangelista Originally shared by Walter Hawn In Case You Missed It the scum is rising to the top in congress The following bills have been introduced, while everyone is getting sidetracked by the Russian spy drama, 1. I've said it before and I'll say it again:

I've said it before and I'll say it again: The #GOP spent decades telling their base that the government can't be trusted. They spent thirty to forty years explaining to their voters how the government - all levels of government - were part of some vast liberal conspiracy to de-legitimize democracy. For my entire life they've been telling their base how liberals/Democrats/progressives are going to steal democracy away so #Republican voters can no longer have a voice in their own governments. And now their prophetic rhetoric is coming to fruition, just not under a #Democrat. The GOP is now faces with the very real possibility that their base has every intention of taking them seriously. Whether he intended to or not, Donald Trump is about to tear the Republican party apart using the same ideas the GOP has been sowing for multiple generations. http://www.politico.com/story/2016/10/donald-trump-rigged-elections-republicans-229846

The GOP's War on Women Makes Them More Fundamental Than Ever

Of course, the bill is unconstitutional. The whole point of the new abortion bans is to force the Supreme Court to reverse Roe v. Wade . While reading the first page of this article, this quote is exactly what I was thinking. Then I got to the second page and the article's logical conclusion and mine are in sync with each other. This move by the Virginia legislature is a gambit designed to forcing the SCotUS to revisit Roe v. Wade. Since  the Robert's court make-up has already proven previous court rulings no longer apply, the conservatives are hoping for another act of revising American law via (surprise, surprise) activist judges -- which they claim to hold in contempt on the campaign trail, but who they are relying on for a win they think are coming decades too late. Virginia is now going to be on par with Saudi Arabia , Iran and the Taliban when it comes to women's rights. Sic semper tyrannis -- "thus always to tyrants" is Virginia's official sta...
