I have traveled both on and off-peak and while there are things to be said for both, I actually enjoy off-peak #travel more. Perhaps it's the (generally) cooler weather or maybe it's the smaller crowds. I don't know, but if I had to put a number on it, I'd say it's because off-peak travel is generally less expensive so you can get more bang for your buck. http://offpeak.io/

Where Have You Been All My Life?

Image
I got bored. I wish I could say I've been to more states, but I haven't. Sadly, I've never been to the Pacific Northwest or New England. I have been to a number of countries, though. So that's good. Create Your Own Visited States Map

The Trail of Genghis Khan

Image
EDIT: Apparently ABC has made a copyright claim to the below videos. I apologize for this inconvenience. If you can, I suggest finding the documentary on DVD at your local library. Fantastic piece of work. On of the best documentaries I've ever seen. Tim Cope, an Austalian man in his mid-20s decides to follow the footsteps of Genghis Khan, from Mongolia -- across the Steppe that is most of Asia -- to the Danube River in Hungary. Beset by bad luck, thieves, personal tragedy, arctic conditions and broiling heat, Tim goes alone where Khan had an army. The documentary is about perseverance, honoring those who came before, the benevolence of the human spirit, and a dog. After all, where there is a dog, there is a way. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did.  Part 1 of 6 Part 2 of 6 Part 3 of 6 Part 4 of 6 Part 5 of 6 Part 6 of 6

Mis-Communication?

About a month ago a friend of mine, who lives in Las Vegas, was hired to escort some dogs to Denver for their owner. Of course she immediately sent out a notification to those of us in Denver letting us know when she would be here and for how long. Essentially, Friday through Sunday. Well, from what I understand, arriving Friday, delivering the dogs to their owner and leaving sometime Sunday. Seeing as how I have a very flexible schedule right now I told her I could hang out Friday afternoon after she's completed her delivery. I also happen to know the brewmasters at a local brewery and I thought it would be a fun "Denver" specific thing to do while she was here. Neither one of us are swimming in extra money and a chance to drink for free and especially a chance to drink at a brewery before the beer even reached a keg or a bar isn't something everyone has a chance to do when they come to Denver. In other words, it's a cool insider thing to do when people come to...

Exploring Florida

For those of you who are paying attention... and by "those of you" I mean the person who accidentally stumbles upon this blog while searching for something interesting on the interwebz... I left Colorado and came to Florida to winter  here where I can still walk around barefoot and not have to worry about jackets, sweaters, snow or ice. Since I'm here, I wanted to explore Florida a little more. Last time I came down was this past summer when I came down for the final shuttle launch. Even though I grew up here we never explored much of what Florida has to offer and I found a really cool place that is barely an hour away from the town I grew up in called Bok Tower and Gardens  (and you can see my pictures from that day HERE ). My intent when I came down this time was to find more places that I didn't know about, places that were interesting and speak to Florida's culture as a state but that aren't touristy and internationally known attractions.  Do you ...
