Life Update

Image
I wanted to give a quick update on my life for those of you who pay attention to such things. First Homelessness is hard. Not so hard for me as it is for other people, but still, it's not easy. Let me explain: Unlike many homeless people, I at least still have my vehicle and it's still running. For those of you who don't know, I've been sleeping in my truck for a few weeks now. At first it was just unnerving as I tried to find safe places to call it a night, but as I've become more comfortable with truck-camping (or, Hobo Camping) it's become much easier to get a night's sleep. Not a good  night's sleep, mind you, just a night's sleep.  Tiredness. Whoa, am I tired. All the time. Sure, I'm sleeping, but not very well and not very comfortably. In fact, I've been getting better sleep by napping during the day than sleeping at night. Maybe it's because here in Colorado day-camping is legal just about everywhere. That means you can pu...

Stand Up or Roll Over?

Earlier today I was having a conversation with my friend. We've known each other for about 18 years and while we get along most of the time, there are times when knowing her can be trying, to say the least. Let me explain: My friend was born with a silver spoon in her mouth. Her parents were incredible successful and she grew up in the same neighborhood sports stars and musicians buy houses in. She went to all private schools (the one she and he brothers all went to was something like $50k a year, per student) until high school where she transferred to the public school system. She once told me it was because she wanted to graduate from a "public school". Her parents paid for her car, her college, her apartment ... are you seeing a pattern here yet? I, on the other hand, was raised by a single mother working two jobs just to keep us clothed and fed. Winter meant extra blankets, not heat. Summer meant open the windows, not turning on the A/C. Where I went into the ...

I just finished this movie.

I just finished this movie. In my opinion, the best space horror since the first Alien film and quite possibly more so due to the realistic nature of the environment (even though the ISS is far larger in this movie than in real life). #Life https://youtu.be/cuA-xqBw4jE

It's the End of the World (as We Know It)

Image
As I get older I think about mortality a lot more than I used to think about the End (with a big "E"). You see, I don't know much about my father's side of the family, but I do  know about my mother's and it's not good. My grandfather died in his 50s from a heart attack, three of my mother's brothers died before hitting 60, themselves: two from a heart attack, and one from stomach (or was it colon?) cancer. One is still alive and well, but he is the youngest born of my mom's brothers and sisters and just barely pushing 60 himself. He's not a vegetarian, per se , but his wife is so he doesn't eat a lot of meat unless he's out and about and eating at a restaurant (usually Mexican). I'm not the healthiest person in the world. I eat what I want, but try and keep red meats to a minimum. I love cookies! I don't eat a lot in one sitting most of the time, preferring to graze throughout the day over gorging, but there are days like the oth...

Mis-Communication?

About a month ago a friend of mine, who lives in Las Vegas, was hired to escort some dogs to Denver for their owner. Of course she immediately sent out a notification to those of us in Denver letting us know when she would be here and for how long. Essentially, Friday through Sunday. Well, from what I understand, arriving Friday, delivering the dogs to their owner and leaving sometime Sunday. Seeing as how I have a very flexible schedule right now I told her I could hang out Friday afternoon after she's completed her delivery. I also happen to know the brewmasters at a local brewery and I thought it would be a fun "Denver" specific thing to do while she was here. Neither one of us are swimming in extra money and a chance to drink for free and especially a chance to drink at a brewery before the beer even reached a keg or a bar isn't something everyone has a chance to do when they come to Denver. In other words, it's a cool insider thing to do when people come to...
