Romney's Credit Card Scandal

The plus has been abuzz today over the " Romney Credit Card Scandal ." Everyone seems to be on the Romney-bashing bandwagon. But while everyone is running around talking about how big of a jerk Romney is being because some staffers had to pay their own cab fair, people clearly aren't looking at this though objective eyes. One, this is a very small sampling of credit/debit card holders in the campaign. Two, it is very reasonably to assume that the staff credit cards were applied for with a termination date and it's perfectly reasonable to conclude that date to be election day, Nov. 6 this year. This means, after the Romney concession speech on Nov. 7. (in the wee hours, for sure) those cards would be automatically turned off.  Three, Romney himself probably didn't micro-manage campaign finances. That's why campaigns hire CFOs and campaign managers. These decisions aren't made from the prop-head, they're made by staff and managers. Does the candidate t...

The Popular Vote

Image
So, the GOP dream team of a rich white guy and a young conservative buck lost the presidential election in the United States on Tuesday. It was a close match by any estimations and the team of Romney/Ryan didn't lose this election alone -- they lost the election thanks to the Republican Party's platform and the choke-hold the libertarian Tea Party holds on the GOP. No matter the excuses the GOP leaders are spreading this Wednesday morning about Romney not being a capable candidate, even though they spent nearly a billion dollars trying to defeat President Obama, the fact of the matter is, a majority of Americans rejected the GOP's platform. Americans as a nation are not hateful people, but the Right would have us believe we hate minorities, Mexicans, gays and poor people; hate them so much that we'd run to the polls and vote for the perfect image of a non-minority gay poor person: a rich white guy. I read an article the other day, or perhaps it was a blog post, t...

Social Media Rule #37

Social Media Rule #37 If you're going to post pro-Candidate items to your "business" Page, you need to expect to see unflattering responses. re:

Bain Capital

Image
I saw this posted on Facebook by a Tea Bagging old high school friend of mine. I'm not going to get into the Theory A versus Theory B argument but to say that in a capitalistic society, sometimes companies go under. It's the nature of the beast. However, the claim that Bain created jobs or left companies in a better-off position than when they began their 'investment' is false in a number of ways. Bain Capital, which forced in-trouble companies to take out massive amounts of debt so Bain could get paid for their advice? That Bain Capital?  Like the Bain Capital that sold AMC theaters to the Chinese? You know, to keep America America?  http://goo.gl/arSYj Or Burger King: http://goo.gl/LVEAq Enter — ta-da! — private equity. In 2002,  Goldman Sachs , along with two private equity firms, TGP and ... hmmm ... Bain Capital , teamed up to buy Burger King. This is exactly the kind of situation private equity firms like to trumpet: taking over a downtrodden...

Obama

Campaign season is in full swing. We know this because of the commercials, the watercooler-talk and the meme after meme after chain-emails that are being passed around the aethyr known as cyberspace. In 2008 I volunteered with the Obama campaign because I believed in his vision of an American where the Patriot Act wasn't taking away individual liberties, where due process wasn't a pipe dream to the accused and conservative ideology of voodoo economics wouldn't be tearing the economy apart. However, Obama has continued to disappoint. . And while I don't agree with all of these items Obama has failed to accomplish, many of them were needed to ensure equal protections, equal rights and equal playing fields under the law. But it didn't stop there. Obama, when he wasn't turning a blind eye to Bush-era violations of the Bill of Rights, was expanding on them . But his silence might have been the most deafening roar. His silence during the Occupy Wall Street move...

Voting 2012

Image
I went to the library (because, I do that sort of thing) to pick up an item I had placed on hold. It wasn't anything special, just a CD of pop-music. As I park and walk up to the front doors I see a woman holding a clipboard. Great, I thought, someone taking a poll or trying to save the Earth. DOn't get me wrong, I'm not opposed to saving the Earth, I just don't have any money and they all seem to want donations in the form of cash, credit or check and not in the form of time, experience or skill-set. I walk up -- she's looking at me and I'm looking at her. "Are you registered to vote," she asks. Yes, I am actually. Well, I'm not sure, to be honest, I didn't vote in the mid-term election last year because I wasn't in town and I think Colorado has a program where if you don't vote they take you off the rolls. Just to be safe, she advises, let's fill out another voter registration form. Okay. Then she proceeds to treat me like...

And Then I Was Blocked

Image
I was blocked my Bryan Foster , whom I've been connected to since the days of Google Buzz, because he cannot handle opinions or beliefs contrary to his own. What really annoys me is when people get their "final word" in and prevent you from responding. It's childish. Addendum: I just went to his profile and I can still see it, so I didn't get blocked. Looks like he figured out how to lock his posts. So, this falls under: I have my opinion, and no you're not allowed to disagree with me and no we cannot discuss how I might be wrong. However, now that I look at this again, it looks like he might have blocked me. Or, at least he deleted my comments in this post. My first, right after his original post, was something along the lines of, The President can't buy anything. It's a condition of his office. If you believe otherwise it just shows that you don't know what you're talking about. To which I also posted a link to this article in FOR...
