Nitty Gritty

In my previous post I alluded to the fact that some things had been happening in my life - some not-so-good things, in fact. In this blog post I will [a] attempt to explain what had happened and [b] have a written record of what happened. As some of you know and others of you never guessed, I'd been slightly homeless for the past few months. My landlord decided not to renew the lease with me citing I was "fat and lazy". So, as of mid-August I was adrift. Sure, I was working, but I wasn't making that much money, surely not enough to pay for a down payment on a place. Besides, I was working for a congressional campaign and I wasn't sure how the election would turn out. If we won, we all had jobs. If we lost ... well, then we were all unemployed.  Luckily, there was a non-profit that helped veterans with housing and they had some money to put me up into a hotel for the short term. The candidate I worked for kept asking me to just stay at his house and I kept wanting...

Life Happens

Image
Lots of things have happened recently, and I'll get to those, but right now I have a question for you: Do you know that feeling when you forget you had a drink balances on the steering wheel and then you take a sharp turn? I do.  Red drink all over me, the seat and the floorboard. Gah!

Does Anyone Listen Anymore?

I wanted to write. I really did. A couple of days earlier this week I sat down with the sole intent of writing, finishing the novel I was working on and then starting edits. But, I'm have a few conversations recently that pissed me off and the last thing I can think about at the moment is working on a project I care about. And it's not just the conversations I have been having, it's life in general. Let me explain: For those of you keeping score, my stability situation is transient at best. I have no job, no money and no way to live anywhere. Instead, I've been crashing at a friend's place only because it's too cold to sleep in my truck. But between his kids, him and everything else, all I want to do is pack up leave. There are times sleeping on the street seems preferable to being at his house. Stand Out of the Crowd Of course, going home to Florida isn't better. Sure, there's family, but I need to be left alone and no one in my family knows how to do ...

#VanLife

As I read this article I kept expecting it to inform us of the "true" cost of #vanlife. Maybe hidden fiancial burdens that aren't really brought up, like diesel maintenance versus gas mechanics, retrofitting a van or just something simple like being on the road so not being able to plan your shopping trips. These are things that could raise the cost of van life. But no, this family was just too inconvenienced and scared.  Source My experiences with life on the road is: yes, it's different. No, it's not better or worse, it's just different. You can get used to anything, it merely requires adaptability.

Mr. President!

Today we welcome Joe Biden and Kamala Harris to the White House as President and Vice-President. It means an end of the Trump presidency and, with the luck of the gods, a return of American ideas and ideals.

The GOP Does Love Their Politicians Batshit Crazy

Mitch Mcconnell is a Snake

Image
[There really does need to be a Blogger widget so posting isn't so cumbersome] Mitch McConnell is either trying to save face or save his ass. Rumor-mill had it that McConnell secretly despised Donald Trump and what Trump did to the Republican Party, but Mitch also recognized a useful tool. He bid his time, acquiesced to Trump's popularity among Republicans and now - when it's nearly over - he steps into the light and speaks truth to Trump and his hoard of supporters.       "They were fed lies." But this isn't just McConnell trying to save face, it's him trying to reign in the rest of the GOP that supported Donald Trump's insanity. It's him trying to recover what remains of the Right and save the Senate and House seats he can.  Mitch McConnell spent the past four years pandering to Donald Trump's inane inadequacies. He covered nfoe the President (less than 24 hours left until he's an ex-president) and shielded Trump from removal ...
