On Proselytizing in Random YouTube Comments

Image
This doesn't just apply to YouTube, but any online location where people pop in with their religiousness for no reason other than to shove their religion down everyone's throats. Most of the time we just ignore these people, but I'm tired of that, just as I'm tired of the MAGAmorons and other alt-right imbeciles glorifying their ignorance.  We have to push back, let these people know their 240 character sermons aren't welcome in polite society.

I remember reading this piece when it was on Forbes and am passing it along now so we can all read it again.

I remember reading this piece when it was on Forbes and am passing it along now so we can all read it again. What did Jesus say about abortion, the favorite subject of Jeffress and the rest of the evangelical movement? Nothing. What does the Bible say about abortion, a practice as old as civilization? Nothing. Not one word. The Bible’s exhortations to compassion for immigrants and the poor stretch long enough to comprise a sizeable book of their own, but no matter. White evangelicals will not let their political ambitions be constrained by something as pliable as scripture. #religion #Christianity #Fundemental #ChristianRight Originally shared by Greg “Basically Thermite” X Time to bring this up again, I think. Why do evangelicals flock to Trump - and why was Forbes so scared of the explanation that they pulled this article? https://www.politicalorphans.com/the-article-removed-from-forbes-why-white-evangelicalism-is-so-cruel/ https://www.politicalorphans.com/the-article-removed-from-fo...

The Jason Scale - A Category of Layers of Religious Belief

Image
Apparently there's a Richard Dawkins Religious Belief Scale. I'd never seen this scale before, but to be fair, I've never read Richard Dawkins' books. You see, I don't need someone else to explain to my why I'm an atheist - I already know. It's because I know there are no such things as gods. Per his scale, that would make me a Strong Atheist. Per my scale, that would make me a Gnostic Atheist. Stolen from someone on Google+ But, being who I am, I found fault with the Dawkins'   scale. So, I made my own. I'm going to call it The Jason Scale because, why not. I placed Fundamentalist with "Strong Theist" due to the single fact that anyone who considers themselves a strong believer in their god/s is probably also a strict adherent to the belief system set up by their religion. I added Gnostic, a word from ancient Greek meaning to know  as another position on the scale. gnostic "relating to knowledge," 1650s,...

Veterans vs. Soldiers

Image
There I was minding my own business, just chowing down on a hot dog and a soda, when I look up and see this guy grinding his coffee beans and wearing the the sweatshirt pictured below. As an atheist I am appalled at anything that can be interpreted as violence in the name of religion, whether Muslim jihadists , Jewish zionists or so-called "soldiers for Christ." As a veteran I am also appalled at these sorts of militant religious people. "Soldiers for Christ" sends the wrong message. First of all, Jesus preached against violence and harm. He was a hippy, peace, love, swords to plows and all of that.  So, I walked up to the man (after I finished my hot dog), tapped him on the shoulder and asked, "Are you a real veteran?" He didn't turn around, just looked at me over his shoulder, "No." "Oh, good," I said and walked away. He didn't argue or follow, nor did he create a scene. I fully expected him to be full of righ...

A Rose By Any Other Name

So, if you're a Christian, does that make you an Egyptian pagan? I'm told some of the facts in the below image aren't accurate, but the point remains the same: the Christian's Jesus is a mythical figure based off of earlier pagan gods. And then there's the Mithrans ...

Yes, this really happened. In the 21st Century, no less.

Yes, this really happened. In the 21st Century, no less.  Any people knowledgeable about Hindu and Vedism (sp?) who can let us all know if those religions are inherently racist? Originally shared by Dirk Talamasca #Texas   #Religion   #Racism   A Hawkins man is claiming his civil rights and religious freedom were violated earlier this year when a black man sacked his groceries and a Big Sandy grocery store owner banned the customer from the business. DeWitt R. Thomas filed a federal lawsuit in July against Keith Langston, owner of Two Rivers Grocery & Market. According to the lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in Tyler, Thomas entered the market on March 5 to buy food. He stated in a nine-page, hand-written lawsuit that he told the grocery sacker, a black man, “Wait a minute, don’t touch my groceries. I can’t have someone negroidal touch my food. It’s against my creed.” http://www.news-journal.com/news/local/lawsuit-claims-black-sacker-ban-from-big-sandy-grocery-store/article_21...

All Praise Be to Allah!

Did you know, the claim of "my religion made me do it" is now an acceptable defense in the United States of America? Or, at least in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania? That's right: you can now assault people on the street as long as you claim it's your religious right. I mean, the First Amendment does  protect your rights to religious freedom, does it not ? Read About It Here It seems as though, Magistrate Mark W. Martin, of Mechanicsburg, PA has decided that not only is ignorance of the law an excuse under the law, but offensive Hallowe'en costumes are assault worthy and Free Speech is trumped by those who claim the rights of religious freedom. Why? Because a man, an atheist, wore a zombie Muhammod costume during a Hallowe'en parade and a Muslim man assaulted him for breaking Islamic law. Um, where is the law of the United States, here? Heck, even the law of Pennsylvania? I'm sure there's a provision against assault somewhere. However, i...

Makes one wonder if there was ever a dimple on the chin of a pope: "A dimple on the chin, the devil within." Pope Paul VI

Religion and Evil

"With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion." ~Steven Weinberg Woman hangs then burns the body of a dog after it chewed on her Bible. This is why I don't like religious whack-jobs.  When they're killing their kids because they think their god will take care of it; when they incite violence in the name of a Jewish-Zombie Sky God and when they burn and hang a dog because it chewed on a Bible (as if her god's really that concerned with one copy of a book).  She needs to rot in jail for the protection of us all!
