Mo' Neighbors, Mo' Problems.

Last Sunday at 4AM I was woken from a very deep sleep by screaming and shouting from somewhere outside my bedroom window, as recounted HERE . I listened to it for about 10 minutes thinking it would quiet down - that the people would get it out of their system and go inside or leave, or whatever. It didn't quiet down. From what I heard it sounded like a woman was venting, or perhaps screaming at a man, and someone else was consoling her, with statements like: "He's an asshole," "He's a fucking cunt," and "You don't have to take that from him," and "No you're a bitch." Granted those aren't direct quotes, but something along those lines, the last one sounding like it came from a man's voice, hence the assumption that someone was fighting with their significant other. Since it was 4AM and since it was loud enough to wake me from my sleep I called the police to come and investigate. At the time I was thinking it was a d...

Four AM Adventures

Last night sucked. I was deep in sleep, oddly enough dreaming about an old Army buddy who came to Denver for a visit. His company had arranged a place for him to stay and we were following another friend of mine to get there and drop him off. As we meandered through a maze of old factories and run down business parks (which don't really exist in Denver) I head some screaming. It took me a minute or two to figure out the screaming was coming from the real world and not Dreamland. "Fucking asshole!" [sobbing] "Stupid fucking cunt!" Things like that interspersed with low mumbling like someone was being consoled and then the screaming and swearing would fire back up. Now, for anyone who's read this blog for three seconds knows I have problem with some of my neighbors. From six AM wake ups of them screaming profanities to each other, to having to stop watching TV in the evenings because they're fighting loud enough to be heard over the Dolby 7.1 surro...

Aurora Colorado, Bad Cop

Today didn't follow plan at all. The original plan was simple: finish packing, load the stuff and the dogs, head into them thar hills for a few days of camping. However, I woke up more tired than when I went to bed, couldn't keep my eyes open and generally didn't accomplish much. Instead of packing up the truck I watched some TV ( Poltergeist  was on and it's still a damn good movie) and then watched some more. During the movie I'd occasionally pack a bag, set stuff next to the door to be carried out and make lists of things I needed to be sure to grab before locking the house for a week. I went to the store to pick up some last minute things like bottled water, chips and sodas then headed back home where I dutifully loaded the truck with everything. My last trip to the truck was to load the dogs and drive away. Too bad that's where the problem started. When I arrived home from the store I could hear one of my neighbor's having a very loud ar...

Sunday Morning

True Story So, as I start every morning, I took Rufus for a walk. For once we didn't have my roommate's dog with us so I decided to let Rufus be Rufus and chase squirrels, sniff what he wanted to sniff, walk where he wanted to walk and so on. I guess we could call it more of a leisurely stroll than a bonafide walk With the warmer temperatures compared to the last couple of days, blue skies over Colorado and the clean fresh air, it was a good morning, me and Rufus and dozens of chattering squirrels. Until .... Duh! Duh! Duh! Duuuuh! Since I had every intention of taking Rufus to the dog park later that day we cut our normally one mile morning walk down to about a half a mile, cutting through a nearby neighborhood instead of walking around it, as is our normal routine. Squirrels were all over the place, running up and down trees, chasing each other across the grounds, chitter-chattering at themselves, us and each other. The occasional crow cawed at either the squirrel...

A camera a day

And this is why citizens need to be on patrol with their camera-phones. We can't trust the police to police themselves. That's like trusting congress to give themselves pay cuts. Sgt. Whitcomb says they do have penalties for not having the dash-cams running, but apparently not in this case leads me to wonder, for such a random act, how often are they not running? Or, and I hate to be the conspiracy theorist, is SPD purposefully losing all those hours of dash-cam that apparently went missing to protect itself from lawsuits and negative PR?
