Ween Yourself off Facebook

Image
I haven't deleted my Facebook profile, but I have stopped using it. Their app has never been on my phone and I don't log into FB from my computer without using Incognito. What really annoys me, though, is when someone creates a Page or an event on Facebook and then shares the bit.ly or ow.ly link re-directing me to Facebook instead of a webpage about the event. Then, without my knowledge, those people are circumventing my personal rules about visiting Facebook and the cookies FB places on my machine that can follow me across the internet whether I want it to or not. I've also noticed a lot of spam coming to my Gmail account from Facebook's domain. It seems I'm being spammed at my [username]@facebook.com email address they forced on us all years ago and since I have email forwarding set up (since I never use FB), it's being forwarded to my Gmail. When Facebook acquired Instagram I deleted my account and never signed on for WhatsApp. If someone is going to g...

Instagram Vs. Streamzoo

Image
[Note: after typing out this entire post and then not publishing it, I found this one at TalkAndroid . It's more comprehensive than mine.] Last year when Instagram became available for Android I, like millions of others, downloaded and started using the program to share images from my mobile life. Personally, I used it as a Photo of the Day venue, keeping Streamzoo as a place where I shared images I thought were shareworthy. Someone on Google+ asked me if I could write a comparison piece of the two and I procrastinated for, well, about a year. But, I can't seem to get the idea out of my head, so: The contenders: Instagram Long the go-to app for iOS hipsters, Instagram made a name for itself as being the place to be for mobile image sharing with quick and simple camera filters to give mobile images a little trendy panache. When the app opened to Android, salivating Android fanboys and girls jumped on the app with wild abandon. Unlike sharing images to a cloud storage service, I...

Will you be staying with Instagram?

Will you be staying with Instagram? I know a lot of people are already preparing to shut their accounts down, some choosing to go with EyeEm (which won't work for me) and others like Streamzoo (which I really liked over IG anyway). That about sums up Instagram. :P

Wow. Eighty-three million "fake" accounts? I'd have to guess that's also a conservative number.

Wow. Eighty-three million "fake" accounts? I'd have to guess that's also a conservative number. I am the only Jason "ON" on the planet so anytime I see my name out there I get a little annoyed. One of the reasons I keep debating leaving #instagram  is all the 'clone' site out there drawing from IG's API and creating IG-like accounts all over the internet on my behalf. Has anyone else had a Kafkaesque moment being friended by yourself? http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/11/09/fake-facebook_n_2104102.html

Using Instagram?

Image
Using Instagram? If so, can you take a moment to report this account? I checked and it's a real account. I didn't see any nudity or anything of a sexual nature in the 3 seconds it took me to report the profile, but with a name like "Pedofiles_R_Us" I don't want to take any chances. Had it just been pictures of kids without the profile name I'd probably let it slide, but there does seem to be some sort of intent involved.
